The State Fair of Texas is here! My family and I love to take our half pint to the fair, eat a corn dog, ride a few rides, but actually my love for the fair goes way back. I grew up participating in the Western Kentucky State Fair.
My dad was the president of the Pork Producers Council, so I was either working their food booth, watching tractor pulls or showing livestock. Yep, that’s me with my grand champion market lamb!
I showed pigs and sheep for 4H every year and also entered canned goods and vegetables from our garden. No rides or games for me; that simply wasn’t a part of my fair experience. Farming was our life, and so that was what I focused on at the fair. And my prize winning lamb? We took her to the slaughter house to feed our family. Life is so different in the country, and I have great memories to share with my kids.
What are your fair memories?
